Description of Job Duties:   

Assess the risk and safety of children in response to actual or suspected child neglect, abuse, or dependency through conducting a thorough investigation of the home, school and/or any other locations or persons involved. The primary function of this position is to investigate. Work involves provision of expert testimony in court hearings, and follow-up with case management and preventive services for clients; will serve on rotation-basis to cover after hours duty with other social workers.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work or counseling experience; or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a Master’s Degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling; or a four year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and three years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four year college or university and four years’ experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

(NOTE:  Applications for Social Worker III, Social Worker II, Social Worker I and Social Worker I Trainee will be accepted for consideration for a possible “Work Against” appointment, if recruitment for a qualified Social Worker III is unsuccessful.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required  Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems.  Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques.  Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socio-economic problems and their treatment.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superiors, families and children, and civic, medical, social, and religious organizations.  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively; and ability to learn and be proficient in the use of the Family Services computer system.  Computer skills, valid driver’s license, good driving record and own transportation required.  Must be able to lift and carry a child.

Description of Job Duties:    This position is assigned to a unit within the Economic Services Section.  This position is primarily responsible for quality assurance and timeliness within the Food and Nutrition Services unit. This includes training new workers, providing supervision and assistance to the 3 current workers, and completing required documentation for county compliance with state and federal performance requirements. Position may also carry a small case load, and is expected to assist with back up for absent workers or vacant positions.

This position will also take the lead role in administering the Energy Assistance programs including CIP and LIEAP. This will entail coordinating with Vendors in the community, and utilizing all income maintenance and administrative staff to smoothly manage the programs. Act as public liaison to publicize availability of funds and program eligibility requirements. 

Supervision of Program Integrity Income Maintenance Worker. Provide back up for this position as needed.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:  

Considerable knowledge of manuals, rules and procedures used in determining eligibility.

Considerable knowledge of investigative procedures and techniques.

Considerable knowledge of judicial rules, regulation policies and procedures. Good mathematical

reasoning and computational skills. General knowledge of agency's organization rules, policies and

procedures. Ability to recognize, collect and evaluate evidence to support action. Ability to

communicate effectively with applicants, community agencies, law enforcement agencies and judiciary

personnel to obtain or present pertinent data. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with

other employees and the general public. Ability to present information orally or in written form. Ability to

read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements - One year of experience as an Income Maintenance

Investigator or three years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker preferably with

experience in two or more income maintenance program areas.
